Text Box: About Us Kitglobal has grown out of collaboration between textile designer Jeanette Sloan and yarn spinner John Hewitt. We wanted to create a collection of stylish and fashionable hand knitting kits using luxury yarns but without the luxury price tag. Jeanette learnt to knit aged seven and never really stopped being fascinated with hand crafts later learning crochet and embroidery. Having studied mainly machine knitted textile design her work always combined hand knitted and embellished elements. After graduating in 1990 she worked for 8 years as knit technician on a textiles degree course in Buckinghamshire and as a freelance designer selling both hand & machine knitted and embroidery designs. In 1998 she decided to broaden her knowledge and moved to the Scottish Border town of Galashiels to study for an Mdes in Textile Design. She moved to Edinburgh after completing the course and set up her label ‘duppdupp’ in 2001. Originally focused on small collections of fine gauge knitted accessories, as the direction of her work changed from machine to hand knitting so did ‘duppdupp’. Jeanette worked for four years as a design consultant for a major luxury hand knitting brand which meant a return to hand knitting full time and led to her writing three books, Easy Knitted Accessories, Easy Beaded Knits and Easy Knitted Socks. The ‘duppdupp’ online shop now sells needles, hooks and accessories for hand knitting & crochet. John messed around with wool and fibres at his father’s mill from the age of 15. The company bought fibres in an original sheared state and semi-processed them as standard materials which were then sold to various spinners around the world. His fascination for processing fibres really took off when aged 22 he joined the company full time having completed a Textiles & Business Studies course. Through the business he started travelling in order to see both suppliers in America, South Africa and customers in Japan, Taiwan, China & throughout Europe. This gave him greater background knowledge into the textile world and formed the basis of many friendships and connections which continue to this day. With a close friend Adrian Wood who also ran a successful yarn business, he decided to look at producing hand knitting yarns to sell directly and in 2005 the idea for Knitglobal was born. Through Knitglobal John’s aim was never to emulate the larger established brands but to produce and sell interesting and luxurious natural fibre yarns at an affordable level. John and Jeanette see Kitglobal as a logical extension of this idea and are developing new ideas all the time so keep visiting this site for up to date information.
